OK, I've got no independent verification, but y'know, this does look plausible...

Yep, it does. Money really does spoil things, don't it? I checked out Greatestjournal, alas they promise ads, so I'm not too keen on that. Feh.

I picked up a GJ journal, and haven't seen any ads yet. Then again I run both Adblock and No Script... :)

I run Firefox too, and I think by default it blocks any pop ups. I don't know if it already has scripting turned off or not. I didn't see any ads on greatestjournal when I went there to read the link you posted.

But usually nowadays most sites simply have the ads embedded like the Google ads you see when you run a search. I do like the fact that live Journal lets you buy them off so I don't have to ever see them.

I really can't be bothered journaling in more than one place, I'm just too lazy. are you going to Journal in both areas?

I'll probably be keeping my main journal here, with the occasional copy of a post over to GJ. As much as anything else, it's a backup option. LJ's a bit unstable at the moment, and regardless if they're trying to sell it, or go public (the former does rather seem more probable), I don't want to keep all my eggs in one basket. I'm using the same username I use here (see here for the journal) and will be easy to find if some sort of migration becomes required.

Adblock and No Script are two downloadable add-ons you can see on the Firefox add-on site; I'd not be surprised to find the former coming with the program these days. It's been several years since I started.
