Bad news

Noted editor Jim Baen had a stroke (on the 15th I believe) and last I heard was still unconscious, this according to a post by Julie Cochrane on the Baen's Bar Webboard. (If you want to follow that link you'll have to create an account if you don't have one already, but it's simple to do.) Please don't send any flowers, cards et al, but prayers or the like will be gratefully appreciated.

Good grief, there's a lot of this going around. Any news on Fred P.? I'd thought of sending him a copy of Great Rose if he can cope.

I'm hosting a website for Fred on my site. He's still partially paralyzed and at this point probably always will be, but his mind was and is unaffected, and he's quite as sharp as ever. He's got cards for both the city and county libraries, and has two of us running books back and forth for him. His biggest problem is that the MediCal eats all of his income but $30 a month, with the result that if he wants to do things like go to conventions the rest of us have to pitch in (see the site for details; apparently as long as money is not given directly to him, the state can't glom onto it.) By all means send him a copy of the Great Rose; he'll love it! BTW - is this officially the first book of a multiple book series, in which case now that you've released it I can add it to the Recommended List, or is it just part one of a single book in which case I have to wait until it's finished?

Had a rush of brains to the head and went over to Cafepress, which I needed to do anyway to order a copy. I'd say this counts as publication; I'll add "The Challenge of the Rose" to the recommended list.
