If you're in Los Angeles on the 20th...

Griffith Park Observatory will be open for viewing of the partial eclipse of the sun May 20th, 5:24pm to just about sunset. There will be (properly filtered) telescopes, the coelostat and whatnot and much fun should be had.

Now if you're various places in Asia, out across the Pacific, or a mite further north in Northwestern America there'll be an annular full eclipse (ring around the moon!). Check your local info.

*sigh* It is just north enough from us to be a hassle, ie we can't drive to it and be home before bedtime. If it was a Full Eclipse, I would bother, but to go from 95 to 100 per cent when it is only annular doesn't seem worth it.
2017 is a Full Eclipse and it is in Oregon. That will be worth arriving a day or two early and staying over a day or two.

Hmm.... *I* may go up to that one... Always wanted to see a full solar eclipse. I just hope the clouds behave themselves for this one - one reason I'm going inland to the Observatory on the 20th - here in MdR the odds are high there will be an overcast by then.

It will be passing just south of us (in Denver) & will be right at sunset, so we're thinking of going to a friend's house with a great view to the west to watch it.

Might turn it into a science lesson for all of the kids in tow.

Not to be a wet blanket...
I hope everyone's resigned to the idea that total solar and lunar eclipses will become more and more rare as time passes, what with the moon moving further away each year.
There will come a time when total eclipses go the way of the dinosaurs, and be remembered the same way - evidence from records.

So enjoy them whilst you can.

If I'm still around 500 million+ years from now, I suspect I won't really mind. :)
