Go Comics Fans!

Y'know, I was wondering if anybody would even notice Fred Phelps and his gang picketing Comic Con... Now we know. :) (Be sure to click on the link - the photos are hilarious) My thanks to Dian Crayne for the link.

Super Heroes vs. the Westboro Baptist Church
They've faced down humans time and time again, but Fred Phelps and his minions from the Westboro Baptist Church were not ready for the cosplay action that awaited them today at Comic-Con. After all, who can win against a counter protest that includes robots, magical anime girls, Trekkies, Jedi and...kittens?

Unbeknownst to the dastardly fanatics of the Westboro Baptist Church, the good folks of San Diego's Comic-Con were prepared for their arrival with their own special brand of superhuman counter protesting chanting "WHAT DO WE WANT" "GAY SEX" "WHEN DO WE WANT IT" "NOW!" while brandishing ironic (and some sincere) signs. Simply stated: The eclectic assembly of nerdom's finest stood and delivered.

I'm a follower of Christ Jesus of Nazareth, not only that, but an Associate Pastor and I love to read comics! I have nothing against comics, art or anything of that nature. I'm an artist, myself. Even-though I disagree with the gay lifestyle, I do not hate gays! And, if it wasn't for money being tight, right now, I would have LOVED to go to Comic Con!
To be honest, these pictures of the protesters really doesn't do anything but make themselves look like blathering, immature imbeciles! To me, the Westboro Baptist Church are nothing more than sardonic legalists! To tell the truth ... both are losers in my point of view! If these protesters were more mature, they wouldn't even HAVE to protest at all and ignore the Westboro Baptist Church and just enjoy the convention.

Actually the Westboro group are just bullies, and have been for many years. Getting laughed at may do them some good and at any rate cuts down on their ability to bully others. Ask any harassed schoolkid how well 'just ignore him' works in real life sometime. It's actually got nothing at all to do with sex, that's merely the excuse.

And your need to continually remind people you don't hate gays comes largely FROM people like Phelps and co who have run around the country trying to convince everybody that we Christians DO.

Totally Awesome. Gail Simone's comments were just right.

And what did Fred and Co think they could accomplish, going against fans on what's essentially their home turf?

Dunno about that. They looked awful silly...

Well, I didn't say what kind of publicity... :) Frankly I don't think they even know what a sense of humor is, much less have one (or they'd be more tolerable I suppose).

I've been aware of these guys since some of them decided to to make themselves an uninvited part of a local rally and parade (not for any political purpose, we were just having fun and celebrating God), and make US look bad with that big ugly sign. We ignored them, there being nothing better to do at the time without making things worse.

Oh, the old "We're so holy we can no longer smile" school of religion. No, thanks.

In my opinion, (your deity's name here) has a sense of humor, and doesn't have a problem with us having one.

I mean, c'mon, take a look around for a while...

Agreed! Take a good look at the fennec fox, the kitten, and modern physics to start with. :)
