Well, well, well....

Today, a conversation about the 47 Ronin reminded me that while I know the story, I hadn't the foggiest exactly where the whole thing took place (well, other than Edo and environs). A quick google led me to Sengaku-ji Temple where the 47 are buried, and a site with lots of pictures of the place (including the well where they washed the head). This site also has the briefest account I've ever seen of the whole thing - for much longer one see the Wikipedia entry. The exact details are probably long lost to time, but most of the versions I've encountered have at least the same structure as this one. I also recommend Inagaki's classic movie on the subject, Chūshingura.

OT, but what do you think of a comment I heard at one online forum, that Hollywood should remake the movie because the ending "is tragic and it sucks"?

Then again, this is someone who prefers the Disney Hunchback of Notre Dame to the original, which also "sucks".

I think I'd like to sing Lee Gold's "Hamlet by Disney" at them and see if they get the joke.

First I'd have to get the joke. I've never even heard the song.

xenolee published it in Filker Up number 5 (still in print so you can get a copy from her I expect). Alas, I don't have my copy handy, but basically it's what Disney would do to Hamlet, with lots of dancing, singing, Hamlet revives Ophelia with a kiss, Horatio is a pet squirrel.. who also sings and dances, and so forth and so on. Frankly after what they did to The Little Mermaid and Hunchback, I would be a little afraid to sing it around Disney for fear they'd USE the idea...

I did hear years ago that Disney wanted to do an animated version of MacBeth.

If I hadn't seen what they did to The Hunchback of Notre Dame I would be scared. Since I have, that would be "terrified".

But frankly I don't see it happening. Then again, I hadn't expected The Little Mermaid either.
