It's winking at us...

Dawn goes into orbit about Ceres this week, and we can really go into detail. Meanwhile, this shot suggests I may have given up on the "spaceship" idea too soon - and somebody left the airlock open? :)

Too many people are seriously posting the "it's a light!" business.

My guess is it's ice exposed by recent impacts. The surface of Ceres is very dark (albedo ~10%), and quite possibly has ice sub-surface, so you'd go from albedo 10% to albedo 90% if you exposed white ice beneath.

Oh I don't doubt it's recently exposed ice, really, what else do you expect to find out there? But it's more fun to be silly with it.

Incidentally, other photos suggest there are a number of these, not just those two in that crater.
