Couplea questions

1. I'm currently maintaining a website for an author friend, who wants to add a forum. This I've never done before, nor have I any great desire to reinvent the wheel - anybody got some software they can recommend?

2. I'm considering getting an iTouch. I know there are book reading applications for same, notably the deBelement Reader, but they accentuate the "easy" and eliminate the "what FORMAT do they use" info. Given that one thing I'd be doing is dumping most of my ebook collection into the sucker, I would kinda like to know that... Also, and equally important, is there a way to interface these things with a PC (Windows XP)? Last but not least, how sturdy are these things?

I seem to be seeing FUDForum ( http://fudforum.org/ ) and PHBBS (may have that wrong) on sites I use a lot.

Actually Stanza can download directly from the web, providing the site is stanza enabled. Both Webscriptions and Fictionwise are. It uses the standard epib format.

In addition Calibre is an ebook library
management tool which can be used instead of the Stanza Desktop to transfer ebooks to your iPod touch. It also works as a cataloging and management tool

Re: Couplea questions
Looks like I wasn't clear enough - what I want to be able to do is take books and things I already own off of my laptop (Dell Latitude, Windows XP) and put them onto the device. I was looking at the sizes available and you can put an awful lot of books into one of those things from the sound of it. I wanted to know if the device (iTouch) could interface with said laptop.

*I* can download books from the net on my laptop, also generate files of my own there. What I need is to be able to put them onto the device from my laptop(not an online service or the like). If I can't, it's a no-go, because most of what I want it for goes away. If so, I'll also have to know if the software can handle a database of a couple of hundred books without getting confused and stuff like that, but that's only important if it passes the first check.

If you install Calibre it will allow you to manage your ebooks on your laptop, convert them to an appropriate format for Stanza to use AND serve them up via WiFi so you ipod touch can download then from the laptop. I do it all the time.

Have to go somewhere with WiFi to do that, but it's a thought. That and I just checked my database and it's more like a thousand documents all told. Will it handle that many? The one real problem I've had using Mobipocket is that it seems to lose track of the details once there are more than about 20 books on the handheld.
