Haiti

Will someone kindly lock Pat Robertson and his fellow shameless wonder Rush Limbaugh somewhere without communication equipment and not let them out until Haiti is back up and running? (I seriously doubt I need to include links as to why.) It's not even remotely funny, guys.

And three cheers to Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph for his dignified response to Robertson's idiocy.

Word on all counts.

Thanks for sharing that clip--I'd not seen it.

I pay no attention to Pat Robertson. Instead I read LJ, My friends (such as yourself) on LJ are the people who make America great. Pat Robertson is merely one of the latest incarnations of Elmer Gantry. He lacks a nervous system. He is obviously not a human being, nor does he represent them. I like him even less than I like the mice that have recently invaded my house. Excuse me please if I'm ranting and incoherent. I have insomnia.

Sounds coherent enough to me, friend, and I agree with you.

Preaching that resistance to slavery is unGodly is an old tradition in America.

What would really be funny (and ironic, and appropriate) is to take both those idiots (and Fred Phelps for good measure) and dump them in Haiti, and leave them there forever to sink or swim with the locals.

Before I heard any details, the first thought I had was "Isn't Haiti like a 90% Catholic, with the rest Protestant? What the hell is he talking about?"

He loves attention, and apparently will say danged near anything to get it. We should probably all ignore him entirely - but the Ambassador's response was SO lovely I couldn't resist. Like, I assume, most of the actual Christians out there, I've made a few donations, and a lot of prayers - Port au Prince looks like a nuke hit it.

At this point, a nuke would be an improvement for those folks.

In death, destruction, and damage, Port-au-Prince DID take the equivalent of a Hiroshima-sized nuke without the thermal pulse or radiation spill.

And Pat Robertson has been shooting off his mouth for a long time. During his last "God Saith" mouthing off, someone on another blog said he was behaving like a former boss of his in the early stages of Alzheimers.

And as for Robertson's Direct Line to God, remember that commandment "Thou Shalt Not Take The Name Of The LORD Your God In Vain"? According to several Rabbis, its primary application is "Do NOT Do Evil and claim God's Sanction, do not speak Evil and claim it's of God, i.e. God is saying 'You do your own dirty work -- don't drag My Name into it!'" Referring to cussing (as the commandment is usually taken) is a SECONDARY application.

Re: Port au Prince looks like a nuke hit it.
Yeah, that it did. Now the whole thing will have to be essentially leveled and rebuilt from the ground up. Presumably NOT from unreinforced concrete this time. Years and years and years of self-built addons, though if what happened to the government buildings is any indication, the pros were't much better. I predict a drastic improvement in building codes...

Robertson has been doing this sort of thing long enough that it's probably not early Alzheimers, but I daresay it certainly wouldn't help matters should he contract it. And yes, I do know about that commandment. Also refers to foolishly making vows in God's name. Nobody but Him has that much control of circumstance.

Other folks, too, have been noticing that Robertson's verbal and other behaviors strongly suggest he has early-stage Alzheimer's:

That's probably part of it, though he's aware that it's no longer prudent to openly say unkind things about Papists....

The Treaty of Westphalia ended the Reformation Wars in 1648.

It is now 2010, and you still run into Christians (most of them on the Evangelical Protestant wing) who still haven't gotten the news.

A pact with the devil?

They made no pact with Robertson from what I've seen here, and frankly that's probably why he's so upset and saying mean things.

...Like that good people associate with him and make pacts. Man. Sounds bitter to me.

Pat Robertson and Rush Limburger have all the credibility and respectability of a serial killer, and would easily fit the profile if they could act on what they spew.

Regardless what it is, they make the reasonable majority in the country squirm with guilt through association.

We ought to send them where they'd have to work for a living, to teach them a lesson, and then complete the demonstration by rescinding their citizenship.

And then we start getting mean...
